- On impulse I decided to determine my own roots. So I did the following: I googled "History of Hakka"
Wow, technology is soo great now I don't even have to do anything significant.
ANYWAYS. Here's what I found out.
Hakka's are basically a mix of everything. We are the Chinese Mutt. We have humped basically every chinese race there is. I know it sounds wrong, but that's what we are. So i can theoretically say that my ancestors were a horny bunch. And they happened to like exotic flavors.
Here's a dead sign that I'm a Hakka. I have a high nose bridge. (Too high, actually. LOL) And I have wavy hair. From what I've read, these come from different ethnic groups. What can I say? My ancestors were a horny bunch.
Perhaps I am direspecting them. It's not really wagging a finger at them and saying "YOU!!" it's more of "tsk tsk" and chuckling. After all, without them, there would be no me.
All in all, a hakka is still a chinese. Hakkas also tend to be more into their culture. And the Hakka language is slowly becoming one of the "endangered" dialects. Interesting? Maybe I should start picking it up.
You know, I can say that I'm a Hokkein Nanjing Canton Shanghai-nese hakka (not in order, and there's prob more). Or I can just say I'm Hakka. LOL.
